To advance her research, Sabrin is focused on quality dissemination of her health services dissertation research in collaboration with her mentor team, including OT scholars Kris Barnekow University of Wisconsin and Teal Benevides Augusta University , while designing and launching new secondary analyses of national data to lay foundation for building programmatic lines of inquiry.
Sabrin has been actively increasing health services and implementation research engagement within a team science model as she acquires translatable methodological and lab management skills for her research program. Kudos to Emily! Her research focuses on community participation following traumatic brain injury. Jessica has expertise in community-based intervention design, stakeholder-driven outcome measurement, and community-based participatory research. Rolando moved from California to join the UIC MS program during the pandemic, and immediately immersed himself in serving people of Chicago who are trying to improve their situation. He is also coteaching a communication class at the Michael Barlow Center for formerly incarcerated adults pursuing a high school certificate. He is a leader and an active member of the Coalition of Occupational Therapy Advocates for Diversity.
UIC won for the first time ever! The splint trophy will be featured in the department until next year. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, these students completed coursework and fieldwork on time, a huge accomplishment! Our mutual interests will fuel possibilities for collaborative research and scholarship, as well as career development for clinicians.
Three team members in leadership roles were recently recognized for their contributions. Kay Rudnitsky, assistant director of inpatient therapy services for the hospital, received the UIC Award of Merit, a universitywide honor recognizing outstanding employees. Alexander has been a trailblazer at his university. He was elected president of the Federation of LatinAmerican Occupational Therapists and assisted with the creation of the community practicum in occupational therapy, and the office of academic development at the Universidad del Valle.
Early in his occupational therapy career, he developed a dance program for underserved low-income youth in with Professor Renee Taylor and post-doctoral fellow Yeasir Alve. He also met with his former OTD advisor, Yolanda Suarez-Balcazar, to discuss the possibility of establishing an exchange between our universities. He gathered information about contemporary theories in occupational therapy and strengthened his connection with the Model of Human Occupation Clearinghouse.
Tia is happy to be at UIC. David X. In addition to his independent research conducted in his home department, Dr. Marquez specializes in exercise psychology and behavioral medicine. Marquez obtained his bachelor of science degree in psychology from Loyola University Chicago and his master's and doctoral degrees in kinesiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. From to , he was an assistant professor in the Departments of Kinesiology and Public Health at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
