Did you attach the Command strips on a cold day? It seems like that would make them not stick very well and I live where it's already cold with no signs of warming 'til Spring. Try warming the window up with a hairdryer first. It was a pretty mild day for december when I installed mine. Thanks for sharing, such great tips.
Your home looks beautiful and so do the wreaths. Can't wait to to hang mine up tomorrow morning. I was thinking of doing this and then securing the wreath to the top and bottom of the windows with fishing line. I want them to stay in place and we get a lot of winds in the front of our house. Once the ribbon is cut to size I strung it through the wreath and tied a knot in the end of it. You could even tie a bow if that's the look you are going for. Whatever method you choose you need to make sure the knot is tight. Next, slip the tension rod through the knotted ribbon and hang the wreath.
My choice of tension rod in this application is an adjustable spring rod that requires you to use a screw driver. They seemed to be the sturdiest, which is good if your wreath is a little weighty.
Most exterior doors are 36" wide, a wreath 22' - 24" should be just the right size. Stand with the glass door open so you can reach the outside and inside at the same time. Attach the two parts of the wreath holder on either side of the glass , in the spot where you want the wreath to hang.
Place the knobbed holder on the outside of the door and the magnet on the inside. A bow on top works perfectly when the wreath is hung with a bow. This is a clever way to hang a wreath. Wreath holders tend to get stuck, prevent your door from closing, and can brutally hack up the doorframe. Stapling your wreath's ribbon to the top of the door doesn't work on all door types, particularly metal ones, and leaves an unsightly collection of leftover staples once the holidays are over.
Command Hooks. Command hooks are really the best thing I've found for hanging wreaths , garland and stockings on my mantel, door, or wall , without nails! If you haven't used them yet, they are little hooks with a non-damaging adhesive double sided tape on the back. I get mine here or at a hardware store like Home Depot.
This technique can also be used to hang a wreath in a window by placing the adhesive hook hook-end-up above the window frame. Use fishing line or ribbon to hold the wreath facing out if the display is meant to show its best side outdoors. Put a piece of double faced tape on the back.
