The Patriot Box Office gives us an option to put in a 2. But of course the best functionality of the Box Office is for it to access files across the network either on your shared folders on your computer or a NAS Network Attached Storage.
Another added bonus is that Patriot decided to put in a small fan to cool off the Box Office. The fan runs pretty silent. Then the Box Office finished the rest of the setup which took less than a minute.
The main screen has 3 options: File Copy, Browser, and Setup. File Copy allows you to copy files between the network drives, internal drive, and any connected usb drives. The Browser is where you will look for the media file you want to play. Setup is where you can set audio, video, network, system, and miscellaneous settings. At first I wanted to try the wireless USB adaptor to test if streaming a p video would lag or not. First I plugged in the wireless USB adaptor in the back of the Box Office, which should be the most logical position to put the adaptor.
This was pretty disappointing. At the end I had to plug the wireless USB adaptor in the front of the Box Office which made it look awkward having an adaptor sticking out in the front.
What I would prefer would be to have either the adaptor plug inside the case since we have to open it anyway to put that hard drive in or have the wireless functionality just be built-in to the Box Office. Streaming p from my NAS drive runs perfectly with no lag at all from both the wireless and direct network cable. It even has the functionality to download P2P torrent files directly on to the internal hard drive. Sound quality was amazing.
Video quality was gorgeous. The Patriot Box Office is an amazing product. It plays all known formats that I know of and more. Does it just present a directory-ordered list of files? Fortunately, there are many other options in the media streaming world these days.
My only negative with the package contents is that Roku did not include a HDMI cable with their flagship player. A minor detail. The purple Roku tab on the left hand side is very similar to a tag you would find on a garment, bag, etc. There is a matching purple tab on the remote as well. From the little bit of research I have done, there are free hacks out there to enable this function now. The Roku XD S has nearly every video output option possible; enabling you to connect the device to any TV or media receiver.
Digital 5. After start up, the device welcomes you and lets you know that connecting should take just a few minutes. Since I have our media room wired with Ethernet and a cable laying right there to plug into the back, I chose the wired option.
For those of you who do not have this option, the XD S has built-in wireless N dual-band connection for zippy wireless connectivity.
The Roku interface is simple and easy to use. The Channel Store enables you to install other video and music channels to your main Roku interface.
Even though the Roku devices can play p videos, most content providers only stream p. That may change as throughput and technologies improve. Either way, the video playback is excellent. There were little to no bumps or hiccups in the playback.
I find the Roku a pleasure to use and with just a few improvements it could be THE streaming media device to beat. The device excels at pushing Web-based content to your TV without hassle or issues. Its codec support for local media is a bit limited, but since most of my video is h. Considering the competition, the XD S is a great bang for the buck. Awesome review, Dave.
But if this keeps your kid quiet in the back seat of a car for an hour or so, isn't it worth it? Kids seem to like it. Transferring MP3s using the included media card adapter and the Juice Box software flowed at a decent 0. All in all, this is impressive performance. The Good Durable and intuitive design; solid value; can be expanded to add an MP3 player and a photo viewer; decent battery life; portable entertainment for kids: priceless.
Plays back at a maximum bit rate of only Kbps in MP3 mode; doesn't include headphones. The Juice Box is a good and inexpensive choice for kids who want a portable entertainment alternative to the Game Boy, but its success will depend on its video library. Intro Not all portable video players cost hundreds of dollars. While it lacks most of the high-end panache of an Archos AV , this rubberized portable offers playback of video found on tiny preloaded cartridges called JuiceWare.
The Juice Box, with its small screen and simple interface, is anything but cutting edge, but kids and their parents are sure to love this time-consuming "early adopter" gadget--as long as the JuiceWare titles keep flowing. With its 2. And at 4. Large, simple playback and navigation buttons plus a tiny power-indicator light line the left face of the Juice Box. The left side includes a stereo headphone jack, a dial-style volume control, and a port for a power adapter not included. The right side includes a power switch and a 1.
